The Township of Muskoka Lakes is entering the final phase of its Fire Station Location Study, a multi-year planning initiative to ensure safe, effective, and financially sustainable fire protection services over the next 25 years.
On August 13, 2025, Fire Chief Ryan Murrell presented a Fire Station Location Report to the General/Finance Committee. The report outlines the financial strategy and implementation plan for three service models developed through earlier phases of the study.
The Committee has recommended that the Fire Station Location Study and the 7-Station Model contained within, be adopted. Before this decision moves forward to Council for final approval, the Township is inviting the community to share any final input or questions to help inform the upcoming discussion at a future Council meeting.
Many of our cottagers are concerned about the potential closing of Raymond Fire Hall because of the possible decrease in response times and potentially negative insurance implications.
We encourage each of you to listen to Chief Murrell as he answers questions that speak to these points specifically. The presentation begins at 2:30:34 into the meeting and can be found here:

Steps to providing feedback:
In addition, the SLCO has asked for a Town Hall meeting with the Fire Chief and members of Council. This will be held virtually on September 17, 2025 at 7pm. We encourage you to attend to learn and ask questions. Input from the Town Hall will also be considered as important feedback in the decision-making.
